Israel and work

Jewish zionists and a few non-Jewish zionists have been working for over 150 years to built a lush, prosperous and bountiful country on barren desert land of rock and sand. They have worked hard and succeeded.

Their Arab neighbors have done little, and seem to enjoy life on the rocks and sand that they have lived on for centuries.

10-23abundance The same hard work ethic has been true for Jews in the diaspora for 2,200 years. Always treated as outcasts, with no land, no rights and staggering obstacles to success in every country and every domain, they persisted.

Yet Jews overcame and succeeded in the diaspora in countless realms and several locales.

Now there is a new issue. An issue new to Jewish history.

There is so much natural gas under Israel and off the Israeli coast that Israel will be a natural gas exporter in less than a decade.

How will Jews respond to this abundance? Will they stop working so hard, will they stop becoming well educated, will they behave like the arrogant trust fund babies of modern Norway?

I’ll keep my eyes open for you and report changes as I see them. Israelis don’t yet know that the gods of abundance just spilled a big mess on them.

P.S. Israel now gets natural gas from Egypt and Egypt desperately needs the current Israeli revenue. That is a future political problem.
