We’re all told that George Mitchell played a large role in the Irish peace process which is what qualifies him to work on getting the Palestinians to negotiate a peace agreement. We also know that Mairead Maguire won a nobel peace prize for the same issue. (Recently she was banned from Israel and sent out of the country after the Supreme Court agreed that she was a monster.)
Total BS. The back story is much simpler.
The new Bush terrorist finance controls on all terrorist money came down hard on the American money being sent to support the IRA.
Between 2003 and 2005 all money to the IRA from the U.S. dried up. So did some of the money from Libya.
How do I know? An Irish friend owned a bar in Boston and San Francisco where he collected money for the IRA. In Boston the Kennedy clan played an active role in raising money and sending it to the IRA. Shades of old Joe Kennedy.
The two old farts (Mitchell and Maquire) probably don’t know their own IRA history and certainly have no idea how to shut off weapons financing for the Palestinians. Israel tries but the EU and the UN are hard to shut off.
Just so you know. The IRA was shut down by George W. Bush's anti-terrorist laws.
